EL proyecto estudia y analiza la estructura de cuatro bosques en el monte Chortiatis, Grecia. [en]The purpose of this work is to study and analyze the forest structure in order to get a better understanding of an ecosystem. The chosen ecosystem for this work has been Mt. Chortiatis, near Thessaloniki, in northern Greece. The study area is in a slope of the mountain, between six hundreds and nine hundred meters of altitude. The climate for the area can be characterized as Mediterranean. We are going to compare four structures, a Castanea sativa, a Fagus sylvatica, a Carpinus orientalis and a Pinus nigra forest. For the study of the forest structure we have use a plot-less method, the Point-Centered Quarter Method, which is faster than the methods that use a plot. We have measure the distances from a point to the nearest tree in 4 squares, and the basal area to get the densities and covers of the species. Castanea sativa has been the species with the lowest density because the distances where the highest. On the other hand, Carpinus orientalis has the highest density. Looking at basal area, Castanea sativa has got the highest results, but Pinus nigra has got the highest absolute cover.
