La crisis del COVID-19 en España: un análisis macroeconómico empleando el modelo IS-LM

Abstract

[SPA] Este Trabajo de Fin de Grado presenta un análisis macroeconómico de la crisis del COVID-19 en España. Para ello se emplea una variación del modelo IS-LM adaptada a la coyuntura económica actual, que parte de una economía en la que se diferencian dos sectores: el sector afectado por las medidas adoptadas para frenar el virus y el sector no afectado por las mismas. Posteriormente se estudia el efecto macroeconómico de la pandemia en la economía española, así como la política fiscal y monetaria llevada a cabo por el Gobierno español, y por el Banco Central Europeo, respectivamente. Finalmente, también se realiza una comparativa de resultados macroeconómicos desde una perspectiva internacional, contemplando tanto la pérdida de vidas humanas, como el coste económico reflejado en la pérdida de PIB. Así, el modelo IS-LM se configura como una herramienta útil para entender el comportamiento de la economía a corto plazo y las políticas macroeconómicas adoptadas.

[ENG] This Final Degree Project presents a macroeconomic analysis of the COVID-19 crisis in Spain. For that purpose, the paper examines a variation of the IS-LM model adapted to the current economic situation, which is based on an economy with two different sectors: the affected sector – the one directly affected by COVID-19 – and the non-affected sector. Based on this model, the macroeconomic effect of the pandemic on the Spanish economy is studied, as well as the fiscal and monetary policy carried out by the Spanish Government and the European Central Bank, respectively. Finally, a comparison of macroeconomic results from an international perspective is also carried out, considering both the loss of human lives and the economic cost reflected in the loss of GDP. All in all, the Final Degree Project demonstrates that the IS-LM model is an useful tool for understanding the behaviour of the economy in the short term and the macroeconomic policies adopted in this economic context.
