El empoderamiento del "dariya"

Abstract

[ES] El objetivo del presente trabajo es realizar un análisis sobre el empoderamiento del dariya o árabe marroquí, haciendo hincapié en las prácticas lingüísticas que han emergido en las últimas décadas. Toda lengua tiene un correlato social; por lo que, no es posible entender la revalorización del árabe marroquí, sin partir de un panorama sociolingüístico fluido y con estrecha relación a las transformaciones culturales, económicas y políticas del país. En la primera parte de nuestro trabajo, nos adentraremos en la realidad sociolingüística de Marruecos y expondremos las relaciones, subordinadas y desiguales, que encontramos entre sus numerosas lenguas. A fin de comprender mejor estas relaciones jerárquicas, abordaremos brevemente la política lingüística e ideología lingüística hegemónica que las sustentan. Una vez expuesto el panorama sociolingüístico, nos centraremos en el empoderamiento que está viviendo el dariya, la lengua materna de la mayoría de la población. Esta sección estará dividida en dos partes. En la primera, haremos referencia a los nuevos ámbitos de uso orales del dariya en el mundo de la música y de la televisión. En la segunda, centraremos nuestra atención en la expresión escrita de esta lengua. Más concretamente, nos referiremos al impulso que han dado al dariya escrito medios de comunicación y agencias publicitarias, así como los nuevos ámbitos que han derivado de las nuevas tecnologías (teléfonos móviles, ordenadores, internet...). Por último, abordaremos diversas cuestiones que el reciente empoderamiento del dariya ha puesto en relieve, como la necesidad de su inclusión en el sistema educativo de Marruecos, una estandarización de la lengua o su posible oficialización en el futuro. De este modo, el objetivo de nuestro trabajo será tratar de comprender, a partir de las prácticas lingüísticas emergentes, la nueva legitimidad que ha adquirido el dariya y observar si en un futuro es posible que dicha legitimidad se vea trasladada a un reconocimiento institucional.

[EN] The aim of this paper is to examine the empowerment of Darija or Moroccan Arabic, focusing on the linguistic practices that have emerged in recent decades. Every language has a social correlate; thus, the revitalisation of Moroccan Arabic shall be analysed within a fluid sociolinguistic landscape determined by the cultural, economic and political transformations of the country. The first part of this paper provides an insight into the sociolinguistic reality of Morocco and examines the subordinate and unequal relations among the multiple languages in the society. In order to comprehend these relations, we shall briefly address the language policies and the dominant linguistic ideology that sustain them. In the following section, attention is drawn to the ongoing empowerment of Darija, which constitutes the mother tongue of the majority of the population of Morocco. This section is divided into two parts. The first part examines the emerging oral domains of Darija in the areas of music and television (dubbing of foreign series). The second part is centered on the written expression of this language. To be more specific, on the impulse given to the written Darija by the written media and advertising agencies, as well as the new domains that have emerged as a result of the new technologies (mobile phones, computers, the Internet, etc.). As a conclusion, this paper analyses a number of topics that the recent empowerment of Darija or Moroccan Arabic has called into focus, namely the need for its inclusion in the Moroccan education system, the standardisation of the language and its possible official recognition in the future. In this way, the goal is to try to comprehend, on the basis of the emerging linguistic practices, the new legitimacy that Darija has acquired, and to determine whether this legitimacy may be translated into an institutional recognition in the future.
