Videant consules: las medidas de excepción en la crisis de la República romana

Abstract

A study of the so-called “emergency powers” of the Late Roman Republic (senatus consultum ultimum, hostis declaration), connecting them with the growing political and social conflicts from the tribunate of Tiberius Gracchus in 133 BC onwards. In this book, the political violence that arose during that century is related with the growing incapacity of the Roman ruling class, the nobilitas, to address and resolve the aforementioned problems.
