Diabetes en la mujer embarazada: conceptos fundamentales y tratamiento.

Abstract

[ES]`La diabetes mellitus (DM) es un trastorno metabólico que engloba diferentes categorías cuyo nexo en común es la hiperglucemia. Esta situación patológica se desarrolla cuando la disponibilidad de insulina no puede hacer frente a los requerimientos de la misma. El descubrimiento de la insulina constituyó un punto de inflexión en el desarrollo de esta enfermedad, antes mortal. Desde entonces, se han ido desarrollando diferentes terapias para tratar la diabetes. Sin embargo, la incidencia de esta enfermedad ha ido en aumento y sigue siendo imprescindible controlar este trastorno por las complicaciones que pueden aparecer. Además, es fundamental diagnosticar la DM en mujeres embarazadas dada su creciente incidencia y el riesgo que supone ser diabética tanto en el hijo/a como en la madre. En este trabajo, se estudiará la diabetes en las mujeres gestantes y se analizarán los estudios disponibles acerca del tratamiento de esta enfermedad en mujeres embarazadas. (Español)

[EN] Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder that includes different categories with something in common, hyperglycemia. This occurs when insulin availability can ́t face its own requirements. The discovery of insulin constituted an inflection point in the development of this illness, which was lethal before. New therapies for diabetes treatment have developed ever since. Nevertheless, the incidence of DM has not stopped rising and the control of this disease is still really important in order to avoid the complications that may appear. Moreover, the diagnosis of DM in pregnant women is essential due to the increased incidence and the fact that DM puts a pregnant woman and their baby at risk. This research explores DM during pregnancy and analyzes the available studies about the treatment of this illness in pregnant women. (English)
