dc.description.abstractIn the 19th Century, Spain is consolidating its national identity, and for that purpose, remarkable personalities played an important role at that time.Quintus Sertorius was one of them, a brilliant Roman Commander who stood against the Dictatorship of Sila. This article breaks down the figure of Sertorius in the 19th Century. It is introduced by reviewing his presence in classical sources; followed by most read Histories of Spain in this century; and finally, in his speeches in the Congress of Deputies and as a schoolbooks hero.; En el siglo xix España está consolidando su identidad nacional y para ello se sirve de personalidades que desempeñaron un importante papel en su pasado más remoto. Así ocurre con Quinto Sertorio, un brillante general romano que se opuso a la dictadura de Sila. En este artículo se analiza la figura de Sertorio en el siglo XIX. Comenzamos revisando su imagen en las fuentes clásicas, después en las Historias de España más leídas esta centuria, para terminar con Sertorio como exemplum retórico en la oratoria parlamentaria y como héroe en los libros de escuela.
