El gen histórico de la rebeldía. Sangre, historia y memorias en la persistencia omaguaca (Jujuy, Argentina)

Abstract

This article analyzes the ways in which an indigenous group of the highlands of Jujuy (Argentina) resorts to their pre-hispanic and colonial past as a locus that legitimizes their contemporary practices and political projects. They establish a historical-genetic affiliation with their pre hispanic ancestors, appealing to the possession of a common legacy inherited by blood, and to the historiographical authority that reproduced for at least a century the discourses on its bravery, already present in the Spanish chronicles of the 16th century. The analysis is based on two types of sources: 1) the chronicles and historical sources that between the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century described the indigenous people of the region, to get her with the archaeological and historiographical discourses that three centuries later reproduced and/or questioned these characterizations as braves; 2) the analysis of the narratives and materialities that serve as supports for these memories and the lineage of the Omaguaca updating of such descriptions in the present.; En este artículo se analizan los modos en que un pueblo indígena de las tierras altas de Jujuy (Argentina) recurre al pasado prehispánico y colonial como locus que legitima sus prácticas y proyectos políticos. Para ello establece una filiación histórico-genética con sus ancestros prehispánicos, apelando a la posesión de un común acervo heredado por sangre, y a la autoridad historiográfica que reprodujo por al menos un siglo los discursos sobre su bravura presentes en las crónicas españolas del siglo xvi. Para el análisis se abordan dos registros: 1) las crónicas y fuentes históricas que entre fines del siglo xvi y principios del xvii describieron a los indígenas de la región, junto a los discursos arqueológicos e historiográficos que tres siglos después reprodujeron o cuestionaron estas caracterizaciones bravías; 2) la actualización de tales descripciones en el presente a través del análisis de las narrativas y materialidadades que ofician de soportes de las memorias y del linaje omaguaqueño.
