La singularidad cultural del área pirenaico-occidental: dinámicas y persistencias entre la Edad del Hierro y la Época romana

Abstract

Tratar el espacio cultural vasco-aquitano durante la Antigüedad requiere una gran humildad. Afortunadamente, la inmensa obra investigadora de Joaquín Gorrochategui ha abierto nuevas vías para ampliar nuestro conocimiento de la zona y de sus poblaciones.Desde un punto de vista arqueológico, las dos vertientes de los Pirineos occidentales presentan especificidades culturales muy marcadas con respecto a sus vecinos galos, íberos y celtíberos. El presente artículo propone un enfoque sobre dos tipos de materiales muy característicos:la cerámica y la moneda. Partiendo de esa base, se pretende observar las dinámicas culturales, la complejidad étnica y la evolución de las poblaciones locales entre la Edad del Hierro y la época romana.; It is not an easy task to study the "Basque-Aquitanian" area during the Antiquity. Fortunately, Joaquín Gorrochategui’s research opened up a few new research routes to improve our knowledge of this area. From an archaeological point of view, both sides of the western Pyrenees have their own cultural specificity, which differs from their Gaulish, Iberian and Celtiberian neighbours. This paper focuses on two archaeological materials, ceramic and coinage, to better understand the cultural dynamics, the ethnic complexity and the evolution of the local populations, in between the Iron Age and the Roman period.
