¿Reforma o ruptura? Aproximación discursiva a la propuesta económica planteada por Oxfam Intermón

Abstract

Traditionally, development discourse has focused on economic growth, considering it the most effective way for impoverished populations to achieve prosperity. Meanwhile, NGDOs, which are also an integral part of the development cooperation sector, have been recognised as providing an alternative form of development; a more humane, participatory, local and sustainable one. This research analyses how these organizations conceive this alternative approach through a case study on Oxfam Intermón. However, this investigation demonstrates that, although this NGDO explicitly proposes a reformation of the prevailing economic system, it still maintains an underlying ideology of approval of the rational and calculating individual, typical of modern western thought.; Tradicionalmente, el discurso del desarrollo ha prestado especial atención al crecimiento económico, considerándolo el mejor medio para lograr la prosperidad de las poblaciones empobrecidas. Las ONGD, integrantes del sector de la cooperación, han sido identificadas, sin embargo, con un desarrollo alternativo, más humano, participativo, local y sostenible. La presente investigación analiza cómo estas organizaciones construyen discursivamente dicha alternativa a través de un estudio de caso, el de Oxfam Intermón. Como resultado, se demuestra que, aunque la ONGD, explícitamente, propone reformar el sistema económico predominante, mantiene una ideología subyacente de aprobación del individuo racional y calculador propio del pensamiento moderno occidental.
