Trayectoria profesional de los generales de artillería de Isabel II (1843-1868)

Abstract

The attention of military historians who have written about the reign of Elizabeth II is usually focused on the explanation of the military intervention in politics and the ways they had to carry it out: the pronouncement. On the other hand, the number of works on the protagonists of these actions, except for those known as espadones, is quite scarce. The objective of this text is to analyze and compare the development of the professional careers of a few soldiers who obtained the general degree during that reign (1843-1868). In addition, the selected group belongs to the Artillery Corps, a special social and profesional group that, throughout the nineteenth century, presented its own characteristics that diffeerentiated them from the rest of the Army; La atención de los historiadores militares que se han embarcado en el estudio del reinado de Isabel II suele centrarse en la explicación de la intervención de los militares en política y las formas que tenían de llevarla a cabo: el pronunciamiento. Por otro lado, el número de trabajos sobre los protagonistas de esas acciones, exceptuando los conocidos como espadones, es bastante escaso. Este texto tiene como objetivo analizar y comparar el desarrollo de la carrera profesional de unos cuantos militares que obtuvieron la faja de general durante dicho reinado (1843-1868). Además, el grupo seleccionado pertenece al Cuerpo de Artillería, un grupo social y profesional especial que, durante todo el siglo XIX, presentó unas características propias que le diferenciaron del resto de cuerpos del Ejército
