Un ejemplo de romanización a través de la epigrafía latina altoimperial: los cultos «indígenas» en el Norte hispano

Abstract

[ES] La renovación en los estudios sobre el llamado proceso de romanización de las sociedades del imperio romano occidental obliga a plantear el análisis de las divinidades indígenas desde una perspectiva nueva, que tenga en cuenta los límites de algunos conceptos, como divinidades prerromanas, sincretismo, pervivencia y resistencia. Se hace necesario analizar las dedicaciones a las divinidades locales en el marco de las ciuitates creadas por Roma, y las consiguientes características de la publica religio. Este enfoque permite entender el papel de estas divinidades en los nuevos panteones y las nuevas identidades auspiciadas por el poder romano en el norte hispano.

[EN] The renewal that has taken place in studies concerning the so-called Romanization process of societies under the Western Roman Empire compels one to consider analysing the indigenous deities from a new standpoint, that takes into account the limitations of some concepts such as Pre-Roman deities, syncretism, survival and resistance. This makes it necessary to analyse consecration to local deities within the framework of the ciuitates created by Rome and the resulting characteristics of the publica religio. This approach enables one to understand the role of such deities in the new pantheons and the new identities backed by the Roman powers in the north of Spain.
