A propósito de un eslabón perdido: la (re)aparición de Assemblage (Merce Cunningham, Richard Moore, 1968)

Abstract

Largamente olvidada entre otros materiales, la película Assemblage ha sido recientemente redescubierta, restaurada y presentada en diversas premieres en los Estados Unidos. En 1968 Merce Cunningham tiene la oportunidad de crear una pieza audiovisual en colaboración con el poeta y director de cine experimental Richard O. Moore, y la estación KQED de San Francisco. Assemblage se filma en Ghirardelli Square, un nuevo espacio público a medio camino entre el mall comercial y la plaza pública. Cunningham concibe su coreografía precisamente desde esta idea de intervención en un espacio público. Assemblage is filmed in Ghirardelli Square, a new public space midway between the commercial mall and public square. Cunningham sees his choreography precisely from this idea of intervention in a public space. All the footage filmed with multiple cameras will be processed later in the editing room, using all the resources characteristic of experimental film, and thus opens the way to a new conception of screendance.
